Where to live if you are a student in Nottingham ?

Nottingham is home to not just one but two universities, meaning there is a large student real estate market. The University of Nottingham has 32,000 students and Nottingham Trent University has 25,000.

Both of these Universities are part of the two of the UK's best performing ones: the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, ranking 21st and 53rd respectively in the Guardian's University League Table for 2011.

There are several different student flat and houses areas in Nottingham as there are campuses across the city. Generally, though Lenton and Dunkirk tend to be the most popular areas for University of Nottingham students who look for a house or a flat to rent. Lenton: living between to Universities

Located to the west of the city, Lenton is most certainly in the ‘Uni of’ part of town. Sitting right between Jubilee and University Park campuses, this is known as one of Nottingham’s main student hubs, with a host of pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants to keep residents satisfied. Be sure to check out the Savoy cinema on Derby Road, with tickets a reasonable £4.50 with a student card. Lenton is the most popular area for students of Uni Of students but make sure you are organised as the best houses and flats go very quickly!

The City Centre: Where life happens

Although the city is home to Nottingham Trent’s city campus, a fair few ‘Uni of’ students also call the city centre home. The reasons for living in the city are obvious: you have great access to all the buzz of the city whilst still being able to easily commute to the University Park and Jubilee campuses. The city provides easy access to The Cornerhouse and The Victoria Centre, meaning you’ll have plenty of bars, shops, restaurants and entertainment to enjoy in your free time. Make sure to visit Nottingham’s most trendy quarters such as Hockley, dubbed ‘The Creative Quarter’ due to its abundance of vintage clothing and independent coffee. Beeston: for shopping lovers

A marina, a golf club and boutique fashion stores, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in Marbella – wrong, you’re in beautiful Beeston, Nottingham! Just a tram stop away from the University Park campus, this is an area highly populated with students from the University of Nottingham. This student bubble has a great atmosphere, and the town centre is populated with plenty of independent stores which gives the town its distinct character. Getting into the city is also a breeze thanks to Beeston’s great transport links, simply hop on the train and be in the city centre in 6 minutes.

Dunkirk: where rents are the cheapest !

Situated right next door to the University of Nottingham, Dunkirk is a great place for UoN students to live if they want to be both near campus and the student hub of Lenton. An added bonus is also Dunkirk’s proximity to Wollaton Park, used as a location in the ‘Dark Knight Rises’ blockbuster film. Dunkirk is especially popular with medical students and student nurses due to close proximity of the QMC hospital. Bonus: Dunkirk is also one of the more affordable places for students to live in Nottingham. House and flats rentals are cheaper than anywhere else in the city ! Meaning more cash to splash on Ocean Fridays…!
